using Dreamwidth on the daily for RP has probably taught me more about Dreamwidth and how to use/finagle it than… uh, using it as the journaling platform it primarily advertises itself as. That said, did you know you can update an icon’s picture by just uploading the update with the same exact keywords as the original? (The old version will be automatically given a randomized default keyword, like pic#2395723985234, and can be thereafter safely deleted.) I thought that was cool.

Also, I think I’m going to overhaul my theme for the thousandth time at some point, because I have done a frankly unreasonable amount of pixel-pushing with some default themes across accounts. Custom CSS, my eternal beloved. You just don’t get this on other websites anymore, genuinely!!

2.

Saying “fuck yeah cringe is dead” is one thing; actually removing yourself from both irl and digital environments where people still get on high horses about harmless hobbies is more therapeutic than a billion slogans. I gaze upon The Discourse now like “damn, that’s what I used to wrap my neuroses around like a vine up barbed wire?”

If it sucks, hit da bricks” may not always be realistic, or at least it’s usually not this simple, but also? Sometimes it is this simple. Sometimes You Can Just Get Out Of Dodge. Flourish.

3.

A major downside to using xyz not-data-gobbling frontend is that sometimes those websites, in and of themselves, break.

This is my way of saying that Piped, which most video/music links from the last ~year or so have used, seems to have been borked for several months now. Or at least it’s been inconsistent enough for me that, lately, I’ve been using Invidious instead.

I cannot be bothered to retroactively change every singled Piped link I’ve used in every single post so far, but /flings this out there anyway

gratitude-ing opet (again), but blatantly disregarding the “from this day” part because we do what we want here

Thankful: Within the past couple days: Pet a stranger’s dog! Did some work tasks that I especially like doing! Had good cake! It’s been chill.

Humor: Every month (more or less; less, lately, but I digress) I try to organize the inevitable pile of Everythign that gets thrown in my base Pictures folder. At some point recently I remembered that Reductress headlines are priceless. They’re like The Onion but in a different font. For example, the two that I took screenshots of: “‘Where Did the Time Go?’ Asks Bitch Who Can’t Tell Time” + “Woman Excited to Finally Maim Her Favorite Singer in Concert

Affirmation and noticing care: Voiced a need in casual conversation! World did not come to a tire-screeching halt! Friend was happy to accommodate! Wow! :>

Knowledge: Learned about a new feature on the work computers! It has been there since forever but, like most features, goes untouched 99% of the time. This is probably applicable to most technology.

Noticing bonus: You, who read (or even just opened the cut and skimmed) to the end of the post! You are still in my sparse little corner of the internet! Thank you! \o/

footnote about the music

Kakegurui is an anime that falls very squarely under the “I didn’t say it was good, I said (after much tsundere internalized-cringe-spurred bluster on my part, including that it’s been literal years since I last touched it) I liked it” category. Sensible story and complex character development come here to die. It’s horny on main. Characters make bizarre fucking faces, which is maybe related to the horny but mostly leaves viewers (or at least this viewer) going, in the most secular way possible, “bro what Even.”

That said, the opening themes fuck (first linked there, second under this post’s current music). Snazzy, jazzy musical explosions, both of ’em; they alone get my wholehearted, no-caveat recommendation.

also have this, from the one entire time I mentioned the series on tumblr:

#bonus tag confession: of the <10 anime I've watched they're mostly either Deep Psychological Masterpieces or... absolute shitshows   #I feel like that's a good summary of me as a person tbh

Yeaaah I'm realising this more and more. Like "Block freely! Curate!" still exposes you to that thinking, and then there's the splash damage of your friend reacting to whatever bad take you can't see. I'm wondering if I may have to eventually leave my Discord servers as well, because even though I found a couple with sane rules, people keep dragging it to the door in some form or other.

TL;DR: let people enjoy things, the way they want to enjoy things :D

Enjoy the lovely cringe ride!! :D

I did not know about that icon replacing thing! I will have to remember that! :D

I feel the "I like it, I didn't say it was good!" It's wonderful to find something so captivating, but also makes recommending it so hard without 500 caveats...! XD I remember seeing the 1st opening for Kakegurui a bit ago and, while I never watched the anime, MAN did it stick in my mind. Such a stylish and wild animation to pair with some nice music! I'm glad you were able to enjoy it! :D
