utena intermission: unedited thoughts

^Super quick screenshot speedpaint-redraw from this bit, because among all the cool scenery packed into the debut episode alone, the bars here stuck out to me. (The orange-y corners are weird; I’m not sure if that’s intentional or some kind of physical film rot?)

Anyway, the problem with using RGU as a figurative carrot on a stick is that, if it is not sufficiently motivating enough for me to do $otherThings, then both grind to a halt >:V For now, have some additional musings jotted down shortly after the first liveblog, mostly unedited.

• lol I like how I ended up barely using images at all. also dreamwdith’s custom html is a godsend; I can apply a custom class to these lists to make them not-spaced-weird, while maintaining paragraph-esque spacing for the lists that are basically bullet-point paragraphs. nice >:3
• looking at Dicks Academy again, I totally missed that the ““forest”” was that giant Mass in the back. Seems kiiiinda weird that The Big Forest No One Is Supposed To Go To is like… enclosed within the academy grounds?
• y’know, that teacher’s pose is ringing a bell too the more I look at it but idk from where. it’s the arms. Ena vibes, although if that is what I’m remembering it from it’s almost definitely a coincidence
• theory: utena is the homestuck of modern cartoons
  1) it’s everywhere
  2) you have seen references to it
  3) what the fuck is going on
• the episodes being numbered as duels makes me wonder if every episode does indeed have a duel
• also it dawns on me, the student council confronted Saionji but didn’t.. Do anything? like ig you could say they’re respecting Anthy since she spoke up unprompted, but also it is time to stage a (pink-haired) intervention yesterday
