if social media is a performance then i would like to be a thoughtful jester

or: Hi, my profile is sparse, so here is a catch-all intro/welcome post! You can also use this as an askbox of sorts; if you want to drop me a comment out of the blue, consider this an open invitation. It need not be relevant to the rest of this post at all.

define:a-flyleaf

(technically): the person who maintains about three corners of the internet using this handle; alias + a blank page at the beginning or end of a book;

(historically): an adult, inexplicably; old enough to have grown up before kids had smartphones, young enough to have no memory of the early aughts;

(linguistically): chronic rambler and bullet-point overemployer; typically defaults to Proper™ spelling and grammar but stylistically diverges with reckless abandon;

(occupationally): hobbyist digital artist & writer; graphic design student; casual HTML+CSS wrangler; hermit, part-time library page, and sporadic extrovert-cosplayer;

(fannishly): longtime lurker; roleplay forum nostalgia-peddler; character hyperfixater; more likely to make goofy 5-second wildly-out-of-character doodles than write meta, but Can Do Both They Swear; former righteous fandom loudmouth; current and perpetual proponent of “holy shit two cakes” and smushing around the sandbox of canon until it’s barely recognizable;

(in sum): someone who thought this was a clever/unique format because introductions are A Struggle and didn’t realize how long it would actually get, oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sections below are loosely based off trascendenza’s template, but rewritten from scratch because i am Like That™

It is very wordy, but so is everything else here. That said, this is not required, or expected, reading for interacting with me/this journal. I just know I can feel a little lost navigating unspoken social rules, so I figured I’d make my own thoughts & positions on that stuff clear.

hey kids don’t forget to like and subsc

  • If I subscribed to you: I probably found you by stalking reading pages and/or comment sections, and I liked what I saw & am interested in seeing More of it! I didn’t subscribe (pun not intended) to the “following = friendship” idea on tumblr and still don’t here—but I try to be friendly anyway, and want to ~interact with people~ more, so expect me to drop a few comments ;V)
  • If you subscribe to me: Hello, howdy, welcome, salutations, all that jazz! If you wanna introduce yourself that’s cool with me; if you don’t, that is also cool. (Lurkers are also very cool!) Kick back, enjoy your stay, subscribe/unsubscribe at will; I’m happy to have ya as long as you wanna hang around.
  • Access lists are a bit of an enigma to me at the time of writing, so all my posts are public. If that changes, expect a new post about it & revision to this bullet.

if you would like to link and/or comment (on anything, any time, ever) the short answer is Yes

  • personal principle: At this point in my internet lifeline, I operate with the assumption anything and everything I recently or have ever said, done, posted, written, etc. in the public sphere of Online can, will, and could perpetually be seen, recorded, referenced, commented on, etc. by anyone, at any time, for any reason.
    • Note that this is about me; I won’t be That Asshole who broadcasts a post that’s clearly not meant to be shared, nor do I care for digging years deep into personal archives. This is just something I try to keep in mind when conducting myself online these days, because [insert wordy semi-philosophical rambling about the nature of anonymity and privacy on the internet here].
    • That said, it does not mean I scrutinize everything before posting it; more often than not it’s the opposite, tbh.
    • But with that out of the way…
  • Wanna link to and/or quote something I’ve posted here, or even a comment on someone else’s journal (if they’re cool with it)? Go for it, dude. And let me know, if you wanna! I might have more to add and/or, with your permission, want to boost the conversation over here too.
  • Comments? Even on really really old posts? Also 100% fair game. Short comments? Keysmashing? Emoji reactions? Essays? All welcome. Striking up a conversation through someone else’s comment? I have no clue who you are and will never hear from you again outside this comment? You’re anonymous and having an anon chat with another nameless rando? S’all gud.
  • In an ideal world I would like to reply to everyone always and keep a conversation going for 500+ pages. In reality sometimes my socialization brain monkey sees a perfectly decent notification and backflips into Nopeland, and then it’s three weeks later and I feel weird about it being “too late” to reply or something. So consider this a heads up that, if I don’t respond quickly (or ever, at times), this might be why.
  • On that note, I have no expectations for replies. There’s no obligation to match my length/word count, how quickly I reply, nothin’. No sweat!

I don’t do much transformative work nowadays but here’s a “policy” anyway

  • Much like the above, the blanket assumption is yes—you can use my writing and/or art for edits, springboards for your own creations, whatever—with the caveat that you credit me (by link and/or name, whatever suits your purposes best). I am a stickler for sourcing. I won’t chase you down if you don’t but I’m gonna be mad about it >:(
  • Would also strongly appreciate if you didn’t make money off the derivative thing (like, turning my art into a mug that you sell on WeStealArtDotCom). I’m pretty sure that’s breaching copyright law anyway.
  • Bonus: show! me! what! you! make!!!!! if you want. I Would Like To See It
    TL;DR of everything: I am very lenient. Go nuts.
  • subscriptions = casual indication of Content Interest; access locking is irrelevant to me atm
  • “can I link to and/or comment on xyz, even in abc way?” yes, without caveat
  • “can I use something you did somehow?” also yes, just credit pls and thank

Alright heck yeah you reached the bottom of the post, thanks for reading (or skimming, or scrolling really fast, or what have you)~ Thanks for stopping by!

Ahahaha, what a delightful post xD I love the definitions section!

And now you're making me wanna go make one of my own. I've been thinking about it for weeks, but been feeling very lazy... I'll have to think and then write, oh no :shudders:

But maybe I should at least write a draft for now :siiiiigh:
