Or like, small(ish) by my standards. Y’know, my initial thought was to combine these with the linkrec, but then three paragraphs happened so.

in this edition: write or die dude you either write or you die. or both )

Been a bit!

Mini boost first: Found via [personal profile] vriddy’s Community Thursday (A+ way to find new places to poke around here, btw), [community profile] findingfriends is a neat community; a lot quieter than [community profile] addme or [community profile] addme_fandom, probably because the template is a very thorough questionnaire. Which I like a lot!! I will have to poke around there more some time.

Okay, we now return to your regularly-scheduled… uh, “whatever this person has been doing/thinking about lately.” Yes, that has an excellent ring to it. Very concise.

writing and artstuffs and rambling, oh my (…it is not concise at all) )

  • There is really no inspiration nudge quite like getting away from a screen, whipping out the Actual Physical Notebook, and repeating a mantra like “it doesn’t have to be good it just has to be written.” Internal screaming over the discombobulation of it all is inevitable. But writing will happen!!
  • Sometimes ideas that sound really $adjective are actually not $advective at all, or at least much less than they were in your head. But also sometimes they are extremely $adjective, just in an entirely different way. Only one way to find out: get! it out! of your head!!!

some writes

Shorter “half” of what was supposed to be another smorgasbord post (“some reads, some writes”), but uh, first one got away from me slightly.

some writes; or, mortifying ordeal of being challenged

Within 24 hours of making this lil boost post I proceeded to second-guess the hell out of everything, as one does. I don’t know how to write AUs; sometimes it feels like I barely remember how to prose! The challenge is officially collected on two platforms (tumblr + Ao3) I do not use! (tumblr, left; Ao3, invite is Sitting There unused until I figure out what I want to do with an account there.) I gave my email to a random stranger for this without a second thought?? bruh????

Well Anyway Too Bad for the doubt spiral because the form went through, I got my prompts, and then proceeded to flip my entire shit because one of the AUs sounds 👌👌👌 beautiful for the source material. I won’t give it away but the genre is brand sparkling new to me, one of those story types I’ve always kinda nodded along with like “oh, yeah, that sounds cool” but never Looked Into. So I’ve got some research and inspiration-scrounging ahead, but I’m excited for it!

ok but what’s the Catch

There is a deadline, something with which I have a very good and sparkling track record and have never struggled with once, ever, in my entire life (← lying). Specifically, it’s a month out; could’ve sworn I saw a specific date somewhere but can’t find it atm >:V (n.b. am mildly tired. in case the Super Extra Mega Verbosity 64 wasn’t already a giveaway.)

Point being, I want to keep this little hype train going! Even though I always have a handful of non-writing things on the to-do list, and will realistically not work on it Every Single Day In A Row, plus I’ve got the other ongoing fic which ostensibly takes priority… @_@"

Uh, basically, I’m gonna give “public accountability” a whirl. Every day I work on the challenge fic in some way, I’ll post an update here. That’s it! No more, no less. Or maybe more because I ramble a lot, but y’know.

Here goes nothin’ ᕕ( 8V )ᕗ

and today…? (this part’s longer again oops) )

Found a very cool community whilst Reading Page-hopping: [community profile] little_details! It reminds me of those script[profession] blogs (e.g. [tumblr.com profile] scriptmedic); ask a niche question, get a niche answer.

One of my favorite things is art (and writing and other media types) where you can tell the artist is really into what they’re making, and hyper-specific knowledge is a big part of that :D And yes this very much includes non-“professional” subjects; there was a piece of fanart I saw on, uh, not-Twitter a while back (although like hell if I can find the link again, alas) where the artist had like, these super in-depth headcanons for how the characters would play Dance Dance Revolution, what songs they’d be best/worst at for all these specific reasons, and I’m just reading it like. ????? there’s a niche for that????? The more you know!!

Basically, I might not have a clue what niche-indulging artists are on about, but it feels like the passion bleeds through and I am giving them the biggest thumbs up from the sidelines. Reeling this back to the boost, QnA communities like [community profile] little_details make for excellent reading.

Shameless bragging: Last night I finally, finally, finally finished a scene I’ve been stuck on for over!! a month!!!! lies down and dies.

There’s probably still stuff I’m going to tweak with it later (writing emotional moments is my burden, I always feel like I either focus too much on making An Upset Scene (as opposed to a scene that happens to be unfortunate) and it turns unintentionally melodramatic, or I go in the opposite direction and the ensuing $behavior comes out of nowhere), but!!! multiple false starts later I have officially reached the point of I Am Satisfied For Now and Thus Done Fussing With This, so.

🥳. . . !! 8 chapters down, 3 more to go, babeyyyy
(well technically 4 but the last one’s basically an epilogue & I don’t expect it to change too much from the first draft, so it prooobably won’t take long….)

Today’s song is brought to you by a post that’s making me go [interrobang noises]. I found the particular cover linked below years ago, though, during a brief Vocaloid/UTAU kick. There is something deeply fascinating to me about people tuning voices like instruments—although I think the biggest mindfuck is that the company behind Vocaloid also manufactures motorcycles and pianos. Now that’s what I call range!
